MAI Group successfully concluded its participation in the project “Development of a Least Cost Investment Plan and Regulatory Framework for BESS Deployment in West Africa” with a workshop in Lomé, Togo, and training sessions in Dakar, Senegal.
This project, financed by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and executed through a consortium between INTEGRATION environment & energy GmbH and MAI Group, assessed the financial and economic viability as well as the regulatory framework for developing BESS in the WAPP regions.
A regulatory framework was proposed in line with the various stages of market development, while different BESS applications, from frequency control to energy shifting, were evaluated using our in-house tool ORDENA. This project has better prepared the WAPP region for the challenges of the energy transition, particularly with the utilization of BESS under the specific conditions of West Africa.
