At Mercados-Aries International we have been working on the provision of consultancy services for the interconnection tariff study under the Kenya-Tanzania Power Interconnection Project (KTPIP) over the past two years.
As part of the final project activities, we have coordinated a study tour to facilities of the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) in Zimbabwe and ESKOM, the South African utility in Johannesburg, which hosted a delegation from TANESCO and KETRACO, during the week of July 18th to 22nd, 2022 to visit their facilities.
During these visits, the delegations had the opportunity to hear about their experience in the participation and evolution of the regional South African market, which is very relevant for Kenya and Tanzania once this interconnection project is finalized, as it would link both countries to the SAPP and the EAPP (Eastern African Power Pool), which is still at its first stages of development.
